Rapunzel Comparison - Razel Dazzle vs Tower in the Woods

I discovered recently (I swear I did not Google-stalk these authors) that Elizabeth Morgan and I both wrote romances based on Rapunzel. As such, it seemed only natural for me to follow up my Flight Comparison with a Rapunzel Comparison. Both Razel Dazzle and Tower in the Woods are available from major Ebook retailers, and the buy links and blurb for Elizabeth's book is at the bottom of this post. Now, let's see if great fairy tale-obsessed minds think alike.

Name Game – Similarity Rating: Creatively Familiar
Both our heroes have the last name "Prince." Who knows–they might be distant cousins. While Elizabeth opted to name her heroine "Razel D'Punz", I went the anagram route and came up with Nel Zapur. Let's just say we tried our best to tip our hats to the Brothers Grimm.

Genre and Setting – Similarity Rating: Two Worlds
It's always fun to see how different authors respond to the same prompt. The two novellas might have started at the same place, but their paths quickly diverged. Elizabeth's Razel Dazzle is a contemporary romance set in the glitzy and glamorous world of fashion. I decided to drop my characters into a post-apocalyptic wasteland full of zombies.

The Witch – Similarity Rating: Similarly Evil
I've been told that Gabriella, Razel's mother and agent, is a lady you'll love to hate. According to a trusted source (i.e., my editor for Delicious Delay Zee Monodee, who happens to be Elizabeth's editor for Razel Dazzle), Gabriella eventually gets her just deserts. As the author of Tower in the Woods, I can assure you the W.I.T.CH is appropriately evil (even more so in my second undead fairy tale), and Nel gives Mother Gothel exactly what she deserves.

Prince Charming – Similarity Rating: They Run in Different Circles
Okay, I have to admit–Dane Prince is a bit too on the straight and narrow for my personal taste. He's a by-the-book zombie-killing federal agent who tries his very best to be the perfect gentleman. Fortunately for him, Nel has other plans. Razel's Mathew Prince is more of the artsy type. He's a fashion photographer, and all it takes is one night for him to convince Razel he's her man. He must have something naughty up his sleeve.

Ending – Similarity Rating: Happily Ever After
Spoiler Alert! Both Rapunzels get their happily ever after. Elizabeth and I are both romance authors, after all.

Razel Dazzle, a modern twist on a long haired tale....

Will she let down her hair for the man of her fantasies?

Famous for her long, golden hair and beaming smile, Razel D’Punz is the hottest model in the industry. But although most women would kill to get ahead in this profession, Razel lives an isolated life; one she has learnt to accept...until she meets Matthew Prince, a new photographer in the business.

Refusing to let her mother/agent’s strict rules stop her from spending time with the man of her fantasies, Razel quickly discovers that one night with Matthew isn’t enough....

And neither is the life she is chained to. Something will have to change if she is ever to get her very own Happily Ever After.
